Soccer Suffers First Setback of Season at Pitt State

PITTSBURG, Kan. - SWOSU Soccer dropped its first match of the 2025 season on Thursday, falling 4-1 on the road at Pittsburg State.

Freshman Saoirse Hourigan continued her strong start, scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the year in as many games. Her tally came in the 76th minute on a penalty kick and marked the Bulldogs' lone score of the contest.

Pitt State seized control early with two goals in the opening 15 minutes and never looked back. The Gorillas added a penalty kick just before halftime and struck again in the 54th minute to extend the lead to 4-0. Hourigan's conversion ended the shutout bid, but the Bulldogs could not mount a comeback.

PSU held a decisive edge in shots, finishing with a 19-3 advantage overall and 9-2 in shots on target.

SWOSU (4-1) will wrap up non-conference play on Sunday at Central Oklahoma before returning home to open Great American Conference action against East Central next Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Weatherford.
