Bulldogs Avenge Earlier Loss vs USAO

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Baseball avenged last week's road loss to USAO with a 5-3 victory over the Drovers at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Much of the action came in the second inning. USAO jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a Bulldog error prolonged an inning long enough for a two-out, two-RBI double. In the home half, SWOSU regained the lead when Kade Folmar cleared the bases loaded with an RBI double down the right field line. Leading 3-2, Sean Monsour singled in another run to complete the four-run frame.

With the Dawgs up 4-2, the score remained the same until the seventh. A two-out double by Bodi Wallar plated Monsour for another insurance run. USAO scored one run in the ninth and managed to bring the tying run to the plate, but Jackson Blue buckled down to earn his fifth save of the season.

In fairly typical midweek fashion, both sides used a lot of arms to get through the nine-inning affair. 16 pitchers in total toed the rubber – eight from each side. Justin Schrader and Philip Sanders each threw two innings. Schrader surrendered two runs, though both were unearned, and he struck out three. Sanders earned the win by earning six outs against just five batters.

Monsour and Wallar both had two hits apiece as SWOSU finished with seven in the game. USAO had the edge in hits with eight.

The Bulldogs move to 5-1 in midweek games this year. They'll have one final midweek next Tuesday when East Central visits Weatherford. SWOSU will now turn attention back to conference play where they're looking for wins to remain in postseason contention. They sit just outside of the playoff cutoff with six GAC games remaining. SWOSU faces Henderson State this weekend in Arkadelphia.
