Season High Hit Total Lifts Softball to Series Opening Win in Ada

ADA, Okla. – A four-run second inning proved to be a difference maker in SWOSU's 8-4 win over East Central on Friday.

The Bulldogs had a season high 13 hits in the game, led by Chesnie Hewitt who hit two home runs and Riley Lusk who tripled and doubled.

SWOSU scored at least one run in each of the first four innings including the four-run second and tacked on their final run in the sixth when Hewitt hit her second long ball of the day.

Hewitt also led the game off with a home run, and after ECU claimed a 2-1 lead in the home half of the first, SWOSU answered back with a two-run home run from Jadyn Hook and an RBI single from Hewitt as part of the big four-hit, four-run second inning.

Alexis Taylor and Jaycee McKee combined to strand 10 ECU hitters on the bases in the game. Taylor, who got the start in the circle, pitched into the fourth inning before she was relieved. McKee got out of Taylor's jam in the fourth and pitched a strong fifth and sixth before getting into her own trouble in the seventh. With the bases loaded and one out in the final inning, Taylor reentered to earn a save.

Both pitchers each allowed two runs, struck out two, and walked one. ECU finished with 13 hits of their own.

Lusk and Hewitt combined for six hits on the afternoon. It's Hewitt's first time this season with three hits in a game, while Lusk notches her third time doing so.

Hook became SWOSU's seventh different batter to leave the yard when she hit her first home run of the year in the second inning.

With the win, SWOSU will look to claim the first GAC series victory of the season when they take on ECU on Saturday in a pair of games. The doubleheader portion of the series is set to start at noon in Ada.
