WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Softball fell twice to (RV) Southern Arkansas on Friday to begin the series, dropping game one 6-0 and game two 15-1.
The Bulldogs will look to avoid the sweep on Saturday in game three beginning at noon.
Game One
SAU 6, SWOSU 0
SAU pitcher Brinson Rogers limited SWOSU to just one hit and three total base runners in the shutout. Rogers currently leads Division II in strikeouts, and she added 13 onto her total after Friday.
The visitors homered to lead off the game and scored another run in the second inning, three more in the third, and one final run in the fifth.
Skyla McPhillips (1-3) broke up a no-hitter in the seventh inning for the lone hit in the ball game.
Kaylee Barkley was handed a loss in the circle.
Riley Lusk collected the game's final seven outs in relief and did not allow a run.
Game Two
SAU 15, SWOSU 1
Hits came easier in the second game, but the Dawgs managed just one run while the SAU offense exploded for 12 hits and 15 runs to end things early.
The Muleriders hung crooked numbers in four of the five innings including a five-run opening frame.
Chesnie Hewitt (2-3) led the lineup with a pair of hits including her fourth triple of the season.
Alexis Taylor suffered the loss in the circle.
Hannah Nieuwenhuis pitched the final two innings in relief.
