SWOSU Sweeps Adams State

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Baseball completed a four-game sweep of Adams State on Saturday, winning three games by final scores of 6-5, 10-2, and 5-3.

The first game of the day was a continuation of Friday's game two that was suspended due to darkness. Saturday's regularly scheduled contests then commenced right after.

SWOSU, now 7-1, will remain at home next weekend for the beginning of conference play against Arkansas Tech to wrap up an 11-game homestand to begin the season.

Game One
SWOSU 6, ASU 5 (10 inn.)

The game resumed in the top of the ninth inning and Adams State didn't waste time, jumping ahead 5-4 after a leadoff walk jumpstarted the inning.

The Dawgs answered back in the home half. Markus Coronado led off the inning with a single and was small balled over to second, reaching safely at second thanks to a throwing error. An RBI groundout from Kade Folmar tied the game back up at 5-5.

In the 10th, Campbell Sullivan walked before stealing second and third. Hunter Smith then legged out an infield hit for the walk-off win.

Tyler Leachner got the win on the mound in relief. He pitched both innings of Saturday's portion.

Game Two
SWOSU 10, ASU 2

RBI singles from Connor Jeffers and Sean Monsour gave SWOSU a 4-2 lead in the fourth, before a six-run fifth broke the game open. The offense racked up four hits and were issued three walks in the fifth frame – two of those walks with the bases loaded to score additional runs.

Jeffers had three run-producing at-bats in the game. He led the team with three RBI, finishing 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Monsour matched Jeffers' RBI count and was 2-3 at the plate. Reece Burke began the game's scoring with a triple in the second inning.

Josh Doelitsch (W, 1-0) struck out six and walked two in his outing. He passed the ball to Greg Ross who earned a three-inning save by facing one more than the minimum. It was his third save so far this season.

Game Three
SWOSU 5, ASU 3

In a tight final game, SWOSU broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth with three runs. Eric Foufoulas got his first hit of the season to leadoff the inning and SWOSU eventually plated three after a total of four free passes were issues including two hit-by-pitches and an intentional walk.

ASU chipped into the deficit with two runs in the sixth to get within one run. An RBI double and an error put the score at 4-3 headed to the bottom of the sixth. SWOSU added one insurance run in the bottom half with a Campbell Sullivan RBI single with two outs.

Ty Eastwood entered the game on the mound in the seventh and earned his first save of the season in three-up, three-down fashion. Conner Watson got the win in relief after getting out of the fifth inning. He entered for Garrett Coiner, whose outing came to an end after surrendering a single with one out in the fifth. With runners on the corners and one out, Watson struck out back-to-back hitters to get out of the jam. Tyler Fortin pitched a scoreless sixth.

Sullivan led the lineup with a 2-4 game, scoring a run and driving in another.  Reece Burke (1-2) tripled for a second straight game.
