WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Women's Basketball opened up an 18-point first quarter lead and eventually defeated Ouachita Baptist 66-47 on Thursday night.
In the first 10 minutes of the game, the Lady Bulldogs forced 10 turnovers, limited the Tigers to just one field goal, and got 14 points out of Hailey Grant to lead 23-8. SWOSU was edged by a basket in the second quarter, before getting the better of Ouachita in both quarters of the second half. Four of the seven three balls the Lady Bulldogs connected on in the game came in the third quarter, helping to neutralize any Tiger momentum after the break.
Grant had 14 in the first quarter on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting and ended with a game high 19 points – matching her career best.
The win avengers a previous loss to the Tigers, kicking off the first of four straight home games that will span through next Saturday, February 15.
Mason Jones was SWOSU's other double-digit scorer, she finished with 13 points on an efficient 4-for-5 shooting night. Averi Zinn finished with nine points and four assists. Layni Zinn grabbed a team high six rebounds with two blocked shots.
10 of SWOSU's 17 points off turnovers came in the first quarter. They finished with 23 forced turnovers in the game, third highest of the season and the 10th time this year forcing at least 20
SWOSU moves to 11-10 overall and 7-8 in the GAC, setting up a matchup with similarly ranked Henderson State on Saturday. SWOSU now sits tied with HSU in the GAC standings after Thursday's results.
