SWOSU Drops Two in Only Action of Raising Cane’s Festival

EDMOND, Okla. – SWOSU Softball went winless in two tries against a pair of MIAA foes on Friday at the Raising Cane's Festival. The Bulldogs fell 10-4 to Missouri Southern and 15-2 against No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma.

With the remainder of the tournament scheduled canceled due to weather, SWOSU (5-5) will now get a week to prepare for its home and conference opener against Harding on February 21-22.

Game One
MSSU 10, SWOSU 4

The Lions led 9-0 into the sixth before SWOSU got on the board with four runs of their own. Four hits from the lineup capped off by a Jadyn Hook double highlighted a strong sixth inning at the plate.

Hook finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Alexis Taylor (L, 4-1) suffered her first loss in the circle in 2.0 innings of action. Jaycee McKee (4.0 IP) and Hannah Nieuwenhuis (1.0 IP) saw action in relief.

Game Two
UCO 15, SWOSU 2 (5 inn.)

SWOSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over nationally ranked UCO but surrendered two large scoring innings to the Bronchos in the home half of the first and then the second which all but sealed things in the nightcap.

Back-to-back singles from Hook and Chesnie Hewitt started things great in inning one. Riley Lusk had an RBI ground out and the Bulldogs were in business early.

Hits from UCO's first three hitters and from five of their first six in their half of the first gave an immediate response. They went on to put up a nine spot in the first inning and tacked on another five runs in the second.

Nieuwenhuis suffered the loss in the circle. Shallen Mershon homered in the contest.
