Bulldogs Sweep Saturday Slate Against Mines

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Baseball picked up its first series victory of the season and remained undefeated after sweeping Saturday's doubleheader against Colorado School of Mines. The Bulldogs swung powerful bats in the day's first game and got sturdy pitching in the nightcap.

Sunday (Feb. 2) marks the final game of the four-game series between teams. SWOSU will attempt to earn a series sweep against the Orediggers at high noon in Weatherford.

Game One
SWOSU 18, Mines 7

Six home runs highlighted a 16-hit game for the offense. 10 total hits went for extra bases, with another four doubles added to production.

The Dawgs sandwiched two runs in the first, third, and fifth innings with a stout eight-spot in the second and a four-run fourth.

Bodi Wallar made himself known to Oredigger pitchers with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate that included two home runs, a double, six RBI, and a walk. He was one of three Bulldog hitters to post three hits in the game, matching Markus Coronado and Sergio Natera who both also homered.

Garrett Coiner pitched three innings before handing the ball to Zane Leonard who threw another three to earn the win. Sebastian Diaz got an inning of action in the seventh.

Game Two
SWOSU 5, Mines 2

All the scoring in game two came early. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and another two in the second and held on from there.

SWOSU got three straight singles to start the game, followed by three eventual walks to plate three early runs in the first. Gage Gaunt, who finished 2-4 in the game with three RBI, capped off SWOSU's scoring with a two-run home run in the second inning.

The Orediggers got two runs back in the third, but Drew Fifer stranded two runners to prevent any further damage. Fifer pitched 3.0 innings and was relieved after one batter in the fourth. He struck out five and walked two.

Tyler Leachner faced the minimum in relief for two innings to keep Mines at bay. Jackson Blue threw a scoreless sixth to get to Greg Ross who earned the save in the seventh. Mines managed just one additional base runner from the time Leachner entered through the end of the game.
