SWOSU Edged by ENMU in Portales

PORTALES, N.M. – SWOSU Women's Basketball came up just short on Monday night, falling 68-64 to Eastern New Mexico in its final non-conference contest of the season.

The matchup doubled as the Lady Bulldogs' first road test of the year.

Despite shooting a season-best 48% from the field and winning the rebounding battle 47-41, SWOSU was hampered by 21 turnovers and a 14-for-23 (61%) showing at the free throw line.

SWOSU trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half but clawed back to make it a 37-34 game at the break. The Lady Dawgs turned the tables in the third quarter, holding ENMU to 19% shooting while outscoring the Greyhounds 13-9. That surge carried into the fourth, where SWOSU built its largest lead of the night at 54-46 with 8:27 remaining.

A decisive 9-0 run by Eastern New Mexico erased SWOSU's advantage and pushed the Greyhounds back in front with 2:57 to play. SWOSU stayed within one or two possessions the rest of the way, but never managed to reclaim the lead.

Sincere Jackson led the Lady Dawgs with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Landry Allen posted a double-double after finishing with 17 points and an early season best 11 rebounds, adding three blocks and three steals. Kiara Smith contributed a season-high nine points.

ENMU shot 36.5% from the field, 7-for-24 (29%) from three-point range, and 23-of-31 at the foul line.

SWOSU drops to 2-3 and now turns its attention to the start of conference play. The Lady Dawgs travel to face nationally ranked Harding on Thursday (Dec. 4) before concluding the opening weekend at Arkansas Tech on Saturday.
