WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Soccer suffered its first conference loss of the season on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to East Central at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
 
The defeat ends the Bulldogs' run as the only unbeaten team in Great American Conference play, though they remain atop the standings with four matches left in the regular season.
 
Despite controlling possession and outshooting the Tigers 23-11, SWOSU couldn't find the back of the net. Both sides finished with seven shots on goal. ECU broke through in the 35th minute, capitalizing on a free kick that sailed just high enough to get past a diving Lexi Johnson — a strike that held up as the game winner.
 
Brekyn Cope led the Bulldogs with two shots on target. Johnson tallied six saves but conceded her first goal of the season in her third collegiate start.
 
SWOSU (9-3-2, 5-1-2 GAC) will now hit the road for a crucial two-match stretch in Arkansas next week, facing Harding on Thursday (Oct. 30) and Ouachita Baptist on Saturday (Nov. 1).
