WEATHERFORD – Fresh off earning the first win of the 2024 season, SWOSU Football (1-2) has an opportunity to keep that success going when they host Southern Nazarene on Saturday night for Family Day.

In SWOSU's week three victory, the Dawgs forced four turnovers – pumping their turnover count to 10 total on the season. Four turnovers, paired with 400 yards of offensive production, helped SWOSU beat East Central on the road 19-3.

More than half of those 400 yards came from Kai Kunz and Malik Roberson on the ground. The two totaled 220 rushing yards together, averaged greater than 8.0 yards per carry, and each busted off a run of at least 40 yards in the contest. It was the first time SWOSU saw 400 yards on the total offense category of the stat sheet since October 15, 2022. The opponent? Southern Nazarene who awaits the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Kunz's 196 yards of total offense per game (110 pass, 86 rush) slots him fifth in the GAC. He's thrown just one interception in 54 attempts, best in league.

The opportunistic defense has shown the ability to produce takeaways in three straight games now. SWOSU has forced at least three turnovers in every game so far this year and currently ranks tied for third in all of NCAA Division II in total takeaways, with 10, fourth in interceptions, with 7, and 10th in overall turnover margin thanks to a +5 mark.

Desmond Greene had two interceptions a week ago and is tied for the league lead with three total on the year. Wyatt Rohmer also had a pick against ECU and is SWOSU's other defender with multiple INTs this year. He and Greene have both come away with the football in back-to-back games.

Southern Nazarene enters the game looking for their first win of the season, sitting at 0-3. They've had success against SWOSU as of late though, winning the past three matchups which includes a 45-38 win over the Dawgs in Weatherford back on Homecoming in 2022. SWOSU still remains 5-1 against them at home and is leading the all-time series 8-4. Gage Porter – former quarterback and All-American for the Crimson Storm – is no longer manning the huddle for the Storm and the team features a new face at QB for the first time since 2021.

The Crimson Storm are averaging over 34 rushes per game, compared to just 20 passing attempts. They've turned the ball over four times this year and have come away with four themselves – all fumble recoveries. SNU has not intercepted a pass so far in 2024.
