MAGNOLIA, Ark. – SWOSU fell 3-2 in the opening game of their Great American Conference series with Southern Arkansas after the schedule shifted to just a single game on Friday.
The Muleriders put two up in the first three innings and scored in three of the first four. SWOSU shut down the SAU offense for the latter two frames, but the lead was enough to give the Dawgs a loss in the night game.
Six Southern Arkansas batters saw the plate in their first half inning and they began the scoring with a sacrifice fly. They added another in the third off a second sacrifice fly.
SWOSU didn't reach base until the fourth inning where they kicked off their scoring.
Riley Lusk grounded out with the bases loaded to drive in the first SWOSU run and make the game 2-1. SAU responded with their final run in the next frame for a two-run advantage.
The Bulldogs came back with three of their four hits in the fifth. Three straight singles resulted in an RBI base hit from
Maddie Rahon to bring
Rebeca Fajardo across. SWOSU drew two walks in the sixth but was unable to extend the inning and three strikeouts in the seventh ended the game.
Courtney Hill (L, 3-12) went the full six innings for the Dawgs, striking out six Mulerider batters in that time.
Maddie Rahon ended 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Rebeca Fajardo was 1-3 with a run scored.
The series will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Magnolia.
