LAWTON, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball fell victim to a ninth inning walk-off grand slam in a 9-8 loss to Cameron in a midweek non-conference contest on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs scored runs in the first and second inning and had two more in the fourth to lead it 4-0 after four. Cameron eventually tied things up at 5-5 in the sixth before SWOSU once again took control with a three-run seventh. Leading 8-5 with one out in the ninth, Cameron ended things with one swing with a grand slam to left field.
Geoff Marlow drove in half of SWOSU's runs on the day. He finished 2-4 with three at-bats where he drove in runs. Marco Barrera also had a pair of hits and walked three times from his leadoff spot.
The Bulldogs were outhit 11-9 on the scoreboard and stranded 14 runners in the game. Cameron issued 12 walks and hit another three batters for 15 free passes issued in the contest.
Five arms saw action on the mound. Zane Leonard threw four scoreless innings to start the game before running into trouble in the fifth and exiting. Four relievers entered from there, none more effective than Tyler Leachner who pitched to the minimum in the seventh and eighth before giving way to Grant Ewy who could not earn the save in the ninth.
SWOSU returns home this weekend looking to snap an eight-game losing streak when Southern Nazarene visits Weatherford for continued conference play. Game one is set to be played Friday, March 29 at 2:00 pm. The doubleheader will finish up the series beginning at noon on Saturday.
