RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU scored once, an RBI single in the eighth inning, in a 7-1 loss to Arkansas Tech on Friday in the series opener.
The Bulldogs stranded 10 runners and did not have an extra-base hit in the contest.
Tech plated two runs in the first inning from an RBI single which had SWOSU trailing from the jump. A two-RBI double in the third pushed the margin to 4-0 followed by a two-run home run and another run-scoring double in the fourth to account for all seven of ATU's runs on the night.
Philip Sanders, in relief of Rece Parker (L, 2-2) in the fifth, held Tech scoreless for three innings. Ayden Page pitched a scoreless eighth. Sanders and Page limited the Wonder Boy offense to one hit in the final four innings.
It's the most runs and hits Parker has surrendered in an outing this season.
Offensively, the Dawgs managed seven hits but did not break the shutout until the eighth inning. Joseph Frisby singled in a run with two outs to help SWOSU avoid the shutout. The Bulldogs stranded multiple baserunners in every inning from the fifth on.
Sean Monsour finished 2-3 on the night with a walk to lead the lineup.
SWOSU will get a chance to bounce back with two more games tomorrow beginning at 1pm at Baswell Field in Russellville. Wins in both would give them the series victory.
