WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Softball was winless in two tries in a home conference doubleheader against Northwestern on Tuesday. The Bulldogs fell 4-2 in game one and 7-3 in the nightcap.
SWOSU moves to 9-13 overall and 6-5 in GAC play. They'll hit the road to face Harding this weekend in continued conference play.
Game One – NWOSU 4, SWOSU 2
The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the first inning off the bat of a Katie Boline two-run home run but were held scoreless the rest of the way. Boline's home run came in response to a two-run Ranger home run in the first and tied things up at 2-2.
Northwestern retook the lead in the second inning with a two-out single and added another run of insurance in the fifth.
Courtney Hill (L, 2-4) threw the entire way, striking out a season high nine batters and walking four.
Boline was 2-4, one of three Bulldogs to collect two hits. SWOSU matched Northwestern's 10 hits in the game.
Game Two – NWOSU 7, SWOSU 3
After three scoreless innings from both sides, the Dawgs took the game's first lead in the fourth inning from a sacrifice fly from Chesnie Hewitt which scored Dani Carmo who led off with a single.
The Rangers responded with four hits in the bottom half of the fourth to regain the lead for good.
Trailing 2-1, the deficit grew when Northwestern tacked on five more runs an inning later – four on one swing of the bat – which chased pitcher Blaire Gentry (L, 6-7) from the circle.
In relief, Lauren Bratcher threw the final 1.2 innings.
Gentry, also in the batting lineup, homered in the sixth. Shallen Mershon finished 2-4 with a double. Carmo also had two hits and scored twice.
