Bulldogs Split Lopsided Affairs with Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – In the first road games of the season, SWOSU Baseball was on both sides of success on Friday against Ouachita after suffering a 14-4 run-rule loss in game one and earning a 9-0 shutout win in game two.

Both sides will play the third and deciding game tomorrow at noon with a series victory up for grabs.

Game One – Ouachita 14, SWOSU 4 (8 inn.)

An eight-run fourth by the Tigers all but sealed things in the first game of the day. With the Dawgs leading 2-1, Ouachita homered twice and doubled twice in the fourth inning to blow things open early.

Eight of Ouachita's 12 hits in the game went for extra bases including three home runs in total.

Geoff Marlow originally gave SWOSU an early 2-0 lead after a two-RBI single in the top of the third. Ouachita answered with one run in the bottom half before the eight-run explosion an inning later. They scored five more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to lead no doubt.

Rece Parker threw 2.0 scoreless innings in his start before exiting. Josh Rains was handed the loss. Tyler Leachner (3.0 IP) and Sawyer Rolland (1.0) finished the game out on the mound.

Marlow ended 3-4 at the plate. Season Monsour and Jackson Syring both also had multi-hit games.

Game Two – SWOSU 9, Ouachita 0

For a second straight game, Jackson Phillips (W, 4-0) gave the Dawgs a strong start after throwing all seven and allowing no one to cross home plate. He struck out eight and walked one to earn the win and pushed his scoreless inning streak to 13 in the process.

Meanwhile on offense, SWOSU scored in three straight frames in the second, third, and fourth innings to build a 7-0 lead. They added two more runs courtesy of a Ty Eastwood RBI single in the sixth to cap off their scoring.

Marco Barrera belted a three-run home run in the second inning. Geoff Marlow, Eric Foufoulas, and Markus Coronado all doubled in the game.

Foufoulas and Jackson Syring finished with two hits apiece.
