Lady Bulldogs Fall to Golden Suns

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU women's basketball could not complete the season sweep of Arkansas Tech on Thursday night after the Golden Suns took them down 80-70. A solid second half comeback attempt from the Lady Dawgs couldn't make up for a slow first half.

SWOSU drops to 9-10 in the GAC with three games left in the regular season. They stay at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center for a meeting with No. 3/5 Harding on Saturday at 1 pm.

Arkansas Tech led from start to finish. ATU was blazing out of the gates and SWOSU didn't have the firepower to keep up. The Lady Bulldogs fell victim to a 9-1 run after the tip, but steadied the ship for a 20-16 hole after one quarter.

The second quarter was not as kind to SWOSU. They shot just 1-15 in the second period and their only field goal came with 2:07 left on the clock. SWOSU allowed 40 first half points to Arkansas Tech after giving up just 48 points in the first meeting between the two.

The Lady Dawgs came out with fight and scored 27 third quarter points on 10-19 shooting. ATU's hot shooting wouldn't relent though, as they scored 28 points and shot 11-19. Their dribble penetration in the paint hampered SWOSU's defense all night.

A 12-0 SWOSU run, sparked by two Arkansas Tech technical fouls, kicked off the final 10 minutes of action. It cut the lead to eight and made the game interesting late, but ATU wouldn't let the margin get smaller than that for the remainder.

Averi Zinn finished with a team high 20 points (7-18) followed by Mason Jones added 10 including a 6-6 mark from the free throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 31% from the field as a team and 19% from beyond the arc. Tech finished at 46% overall and 40% from three.
