Lady Bulldogs Handle Rogers State for Second Win

CLAREMORE, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball defeated Rogers State 71-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Claremore Expo Center, improving to 2-0 on the season with a second straight win over an MIAA foe.

Averi Zinn led the charge with 19 points, shooting 6-of-13 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Hailey Grant added 13 points, while Mason Jones chipped in with 10.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 43.6% from the field and 78.6% from the free-throw line, while overcoming a 1-for-14 day from beyond the arc. They controlled the paint, scoring 40 points to Rogers State's 16, and dominated fast-break points, 14-7. The bench contributed 22 points led by Libbi Zinn's nine.

SWOSU's defense forced Rogers State into 22 turnovers, marking the second consecutive game notching 20-plus forced turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs also shot 40% or better in three quarters for the second straight game.

The Lady Bulldogs took frequent trips to the foul line, where they excelled, shooting 22-28, including 15-18 in the fourth quarter. It was free throws that helped keep the Hillcats at bay in the final quarter. SWOSU outscored RSU 19-14 in the fourth after they began chipping away at the Lady Bulldog lead in the third quarter. 

Following the result, SWOSU will return to Weatherford to play their home opener on Thursday, November 14 against Eastern New Mexico.
