First Half Effort Not Enough at HSU

ARKDELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Football played a 7-2 Henderson State team tough on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 35-17 to the Reddies after getting outscored 28-14 in the second half.

The Bulldogs led 3-0 after the first quarter and trailed just 7-3 at halftime after the defense limited the Reddies to 132 yards in the first half. Three straight Henderson State possessions in the third quarter went for touchdowns which allowed them to pull away for good.

SWOSU scored first following a fumble recovery from Bryson Jordan. 15 plays later, Ethan McBee connected on a 33-yard field goal to put the Dawgs ahead.

The two second half scores by the Bulldogs came through the air on connections from Tate Robards to Baylor Nash for 25 yards and then Zion Mercer from 14 yards out. It was Nash's second touchdown grab this season. Mercer's first.

Robards finished 20-for-34 for 211 yards and threw one interception. SWOSU totaled 134 yards on the ground on 50 attempts. Malik Roberson led that effort by rushing 18 times for 73 yards.

Defensively, Keshaun Jackson tallied eight tackles to lead the unit. Logan Monroe added six, including his fifth sack of the year.

HSU finished with 421 yards after doubling their offensive output after halftime. SWOSU tallied 345 yards – the second highest total this season.

The Dawgs lost the turnover battle 2-1.
