SWOSU Football gears up for a road matchup with Henderson State on Saturday, looking to defeat the Reddies for the first time since 2018 and snap a current five-game losing streak.

Against a stout Southern Arkansas squad in week eight, the Dawgs scored a touchdown on their second offensive possession but did not score again until the last in a 48-14 loss.

After a three-and-out by the Bulldog defense on the first possession of the game, Michael Adesola got his hands on an SAU punt that gave SWOSU good field position which eventually led to a score.

Malik Roberson and Keyshawn Walls both notched the first rushing touchdowns of their careers in the game and combined for 108 yards on the ground.

SAU found success through the air with 413 yards in the game and ended with 525 yards of total offense. It's the most yards the Dawg defense has allowed this year. Entering the day, SWOSU hadn't allowed 300 yards of passing to an opponent.

Zack Roberts got his first sack of the season and was the team's leading tackler after finishing with 13.

The Reddies enter the contest 7-2 on the year and winners of their last two. HSU's two blemishes this year have both come to ranked opponents – a 66-0 loss to then No. 1 Harding, and a 42-19 defeat to No. 24 Southern Arkansas.

Three-time GAC Offensive Player of the Week Andrew Edwards leads a Reddie offense that is scoring 34.1 points and totaling 394.8 yards per game. Edwards leads the league with 1,978 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. He spreads it around to four receivers who rank inside the GAC's top-25 in receiving yards.

On the ground, Jeremiah Davis leads the conference with 697 yards on the year. He's scored nine times and has also been a player of the week this season.

Defensively, HSU is holding opponents to 22.1 points and 294.6 yards per game – both ranked fourth in the conference. Opponents are averaging 4.4 yards per rush and seven of their nine opponents have not been able to throw for over 150 yards against them. Four of those were held under 100.

Against Henderson State all time, SWOSU is 2-10. Both of those wins however, have come on the road with a 35-31 win in 2018 and a 17-13 win in 2011 in the first meeting between teams.

Last year, the Dawgs fell 56-0 to the Reddies in Weatherford.
