SWOSU hosts two Arkansas schools this week, Henderson State at 5:30 pm on Thursday and Ouachita Baptist at 1 pm on Saturday.
Henderson State is coming off a 20-point win against Oklahoma Baptist last Saturday. It was their second GAC win by 20-plus points this season. Ashley Farrar, HSU's leading scorer, ranks third in the GAC scoring 18.7 points per game. She has three 20-plus point games this season, including 24 points in the win versus Oklahoma Baptist. The Reddie offense looks to shoot the three. They are second in both three-point attempts (300, 8.9 per game) and three-point percentage (36%) in the GAC.Â
The Reddies swept SWOSU in the 2022-23 season, beating the Lady Dawgs twice in the same season for the first time in the Division II era.
Ouachita Baptist took a 75-59 loss to #2/6 Southern Nazarene on Saturday, breaking their five-game win streak. The Ouachita offense comes by committee with three players averaging more than 10 points per game and five averaging more than five points per game. Ouachita averages nearly 11 steals per game, good for fourth around the league. They hold the fourth best turnover margin in the conference, committing 16.4 per game while forcing 21.4.Â
The Tigers and Lady Dawgs each won their home games against each other last season. OUA's win in Arkadelphia was the Tigers' first win against SWOSU since the 2016-17 season.
SWOSU split their two games last week after losing to Southern Arkansas in the largest margin of the season, 88-55, and beating Arkansas-Monticello 74-69.
In the defeat at SAU, SWOSU shot a season high 41% (12-29) from beyond the arc but committed a season high 24 turnovers. The defense could not keep up with the fast-paced Muleriders. Southern Arkansas scored 88 points on 51% from the field and 54% from the three-point line -- all three representing the highest totals that the Lady Bulldogs defense has allowed this season.
Against Arkansas-Monticello, SWOSU scored a season high 74 points. It was the first time they eclipsed the 70-point mark in 2023-24.Â
Lanie Gooch scored a career high 11 points and grabbed a season high 10 rebounds against Southern Arkansas. This marks her first double-double in a Lady Dawg uniform.
Libbi Zinn also had a career scoring day last week. She totaled 17 points on 50% shooting against UAM.
Mason Jones was the leading scorer on the week. She had 14 points in both games and shot a blistering 66% from three in the two games.
Averi Zinn continues sit near the top of the conference in steals. The 5'3 guard ranks second with 2.7 steals per game and holds a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio, also second in the league. Â
