Women’s Basketball Falls Victim to Hot Shooting Reddies

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Women's Basketball got a career high 31-points from Averi Zinn against Henderson State on Thursday night but could not overtake a Henderson State team that shot 54% in the game. The Lady Bulldogs went on to fall, 78-71.

The Reddies' shooting night represented the highest field goal percentage of any opponent this season.

The Dawgs trailed from the onset, chasing HSU on the scoreboard the entire way. SWOSU trailed 19-13 after the first quarter and 42-37 at halftime. After outscoring the Reddies in the third quarter, SWOSU trailed by just two points, 58-56, entering the game's final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, The Reddies used an 11-2 run to take control one last time and push the margin back out after a tight third quarter which saw SWOSU within one possession on multiple occasions.

Zinn got her 31 points on 11-of-24 shooting and 4-for-10 from beyond the arc. She had 17 in the first half.

SWOSU finished at 37% from the field as a team and got outshot by a hot Reddie offense who finished over 50% in both halves which included a pair of 60-plus percent shooting quarters mixed in. HSU went 10-for-20 from the three-point line and added 14-of-18 makes at the free throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded Henderson State 35-30 which included 15 offensive boards, but SWOSU could only turn those into 10 second chance points. Ultimately, the shooting of the Reddies proved to be the biggest difference maker.

Both sides committed 14 turnovers.

SWOSU drops to 7-6 on the season and 4-3 in GAC play. They'll rest Friday before playing host to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in a 1:00 pm contest in Weatherford.
