ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball suffered its first conference loss of the season following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Northwestern on Tuesday night up in Alva.
The Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 and fought off the Rangers for one additional set before finally falling for good in the fourth. With the loss, SWOSU moves to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in GAC play heading into Thursday's home match against Southern Nazarene.
SWOSU survived a third set in which the Rangers rallied back late and had the Dawgs fighting on their heels by facing a pair of match points. Despite this, the visiting Bulldogs found a way to escape the third and it seemed like momentum would swing back to SWOSU. However, a match high nine errors in the fourth set spoiled any chances.
For the match, SWOSU hit .215 as a team while Northwestern ended at .278. Reigning GAC Offensive Player of the Week Lacy Mott finished with a team high 18 kills (.444) and tacked on another double-double with 20 digs. Maicee Morgan was SWOSU's other double-digit kills provider. She finished with 12 on a less efficient .143 hitting.
Jada Permenter, also a GAC Player of the Week on defense, led the team with 22 digs.
First serve against SNU and a chance to bounce back comes on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Weatherford.
