WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer dropped a home match 3-0 against Midwestern State on Sunday afternoon.
The defeat puts the Bulldogs at 0-5-1 and concludes the challenging non-conference slate that was scheduled. SWOSU – the defending GAC Champions – will now turn its attention to conference play, which is set to begin next week.
MSU controlled the match statistically, getting the better of the Dawgs in shots, 24-7, shots on goal, 11-2, and corner kicks, 6-0.
The game winning goal came in the 38th minute setup by a corner kick. Midwestern added a pair of scores for insurance in the second half in minutes 60 and 77.
With the Mustang offense on attack, goalkeeper Amelia Forsling was kept on notice throughout. She finished with eight saves – one shy of her season high.
Three Bulldogs accounted for two shot attempts apiece in the contest: Natalie Freeman, Micaella Swain, and Ruth Vasquez. One of Swain's was SWOSU's only put on goal.
Next week, SWOSU kicks off Great American Conference play on the road on Wednesday (Sept. 20) against Northwestern. They return home Saturday (Sept. 23) and will host Oklahoma Baptist.
