COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a half hour lightning delay in the mountains, Colorado Colorado-Springs defeated SWOSU soccer 5-1.
This moves SWOSU to 0-3-1 on the season. They will stay on the road and head south for a nonconference game at West Texas A&M at 5:00 pm on September 12.
A blazing fast 5' goal from the Lions set the theme for the game. UCCS lived on their attacking side in the first half, outshooting SWOSU 13-1. Two more goals from the home team put them up 3-0 when the lightning delay hit. It kept the two teams in the locker rooms for about 30 minutes.
Play resumed and swiftly went to halftime for another break. UCCS extend the lead to 4-0 right out of the half. In the 70' minute,
Elvira Gunnarsson scored the first goal of her college career and put SWOSU on the board. Yet, the lead was too far gone and the Lions added another goal to end the game 5-1.
UCCS was the aggressor the entire match offensively. They outshot SWOSU 21-4 and had 15 shots on goal to SWOSU's two.
