WEATHERFORD, Okla. – On a cold, windy afternoon in Weatherford, SWOSU fell to Arkansas-Monticello by final scores of 2-1 and 2-0 to conclude the series. Offense was at a premium all day with the wind blowing in, but it was UAM who was able to conjure enough offense in both games to earn the series victory.
The Bulldogs close out the season next weekend at Northwestern.
GAME ONE – UAM 2, SWOSU 1
After the Dawgs scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, UAM immediately answered with a leadoff triple in the next inning and eventually scored via sacrifice fly to plate the game-winning run.
Alec Worden sparked the lone SWOSU score in the seventh with a one-out single. He stole second and was driven in by Markus Coronado who delivered the two-out RBI single.
SWOSU finished with five singles in the contest, all singles. Brooks Red led the way with a 2-4 showing at the plate.
UAM had four hits, but two went for extra-bases (2B, 3B) and both of those hits ended up scoring.
Ernesto Hidrogo started on the mound and pitched 6.0 innings before giving way to the bullpen. He struck out six and walked four. Bryson Armstrong (L, 2-2) threw two innings of relief followed by Matt Milner who threw a scoreless ninth.
GAME TWO – UAM 2, SWOSU 0
UAM's pitcher Derrick Potts held SWOSU scoreless in the series finale with a complete game four-hitter. Meanwhile, the Weevils scored the deciding first-run in the fifth and added another run for insurance in the seventh.
SWOSU's best chance came in the fourth inning when two batters walked and Brooks Red added a single to load the bases with two outs. Unfortunately, the bases were left stranded after a fly out ended the inning.
Jackson Phillips (L, 4-3) pitched into the seventh inning before being relieved by Zane Leonard who did a great job getting out of a no-out, two-runner on jam without allowing any additional runs.
Geoff Marlow finished 1-1 in the game and got on base another two times via walks.
