WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball matched No. 10 Central Oklahoma in hits but left eight runners on base and fell at home to the Bronchos 4-2 in Tuesday's non-conference midweek matchup.
On a cloudy and chilly afternoon, it was the third inning where most of the action ended up. UCO used three hits, all singles, in the third inning to plate three of their four runs in the game. SWOSU answered in the bottom half courtesy of a Geoff Marlow two-RBI double after Griffin Larsen and Alex Rice both reached base with hits earlier in the inning.
The Bronchos manufactured one additional insurance run in the seventh following a hit-by-pitch to start the inning. A sac bunt moved the runner over and a single through the left side scored him.
SWOSU had a runner on third in both the sixth and seventh innings with two outs but could not cash them into any runs.
Philip Sanders (L, 1-1) started on the mound for the Dawgs and went 3.0 innings before giving way to the bullpen. Wyatt Sharry threw a scoreless next three innings, followed by Gonzalo Armas who pitched the seventh and Logan Lagasse who finished the game out from there.
Cade Hamilton, Rice, and Marlow all finished with two hits each to lead the lineup.
The Bulldogs (7-11, 3-6 GAC) will return to conference action against East Central this weekend at home. Their five-game homestand will conclude next Tuesday (March 14) with one final midweek against Cameron.
