SWOSU Closes Out Series with Southeastern

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball dropped both games of their series ending doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. The score of both games were the same, SWOSU losing 0-3.

They will look to regroup quickly on Monday as they head to Kansas on Tuesday for a midweek doubleheader at Newman, starting at 2:30 pm.

GAME ONE – SE 3, SWOSU 0

The opening game of the day was one to forget. SWOSU mustered just two base runners in seven innings. The two base runners came off of walks.

Even with the lackluster offensive output, the game was winnable. The Savage Storm only put three runs up on the board and struggled to score their runners. SWOSU was just unable to make solid contact the entire game.

Taryn Westbrook (L, 0-7) is on the hook for the loss. Brianna Cryer pitched well in relief. She went 3.2 innings, allowing only one earned run and three strikeouts.

GAME TWO – SE 3, SWOSU 0

Kaylee Barkley got her first start of the year in this one and looked very composed in the circle. A complete game and only one earned run of the three scored highlighted her strong performance.

Both teams suffered from offensive woes at the start of the second contest. Through three innings, there were no hits and only two walks to show from 20 at bats. The fourth inning brought the deciding factor.

The first batter of the inning achieved the first hit of the game. Her single put the eventual winning run on base and an error saw her score. Southeastern would later load the bases but Barkley got out of the jam with only one given up.

Again, SWOSU was in the game until the final frame. The Savage Storm scored two in the top of the seventh off of an errant outfield throw home, which gave Southeastern a better-looking final score. SWOSU surrendering these two runs was the nail in the coffin.

Jordyn Wadley finished hitting 1-3 with a double. Kaylee Barkley (L, 2-1) went all seven and received her first loss on the year.
