Home Runs Push SNU Over SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball hosted Southern Nazarene to start their weekend series on Friday afternoon. On a windy day at the SWOSU Athletic Complex, four Crimson Storm home runs lead them to an 8-4 win over the Bulldogs.

SWOSU drops the first game of the series, but have chances to get revenge. They have a doubleheader on deck with SNU tomorrow, with the start time scheduled for 1:00 pm.

The first inning saw SWOSU score one run in the opening two batters. Kaylee Barkley's single brought Maddie Rahon home for the first score of the game. SWOSU then loaded the bases in the second inning with a chance to extend their lead. SNU had already obtained two outs and got the third to keep the Bulldogs lead to one.

A couple ties and lead changes were on tap for the middle innings. Southern Nazarene gave the first tie with a solo home run in the first batter of the third. SWOSU came back with two runs of their own off multiple singles to retake the lead at 3-1 after three.

A leadoff single led into a two run homer for SNU to again tie the game in the fourth. The Dawgs went three up three down to enter the fifth inning, where SNU opened up the game.

A double to left field led to a pitching change for SWOSU. After the pitching change, Southern Nazarene blasted back to back home runs to take their first lead of the day. A couple more base hits scored two more runs. The damage after the fifth was five runs to give SNU an 8-3 lead.

SWOSU rallied as they scored one in the fifth. They also had the bases loaded with two outs but, for the second time in the game, couldn't bring any of the runners home. This would end up being SWOSU's last substantial chance to comeback.

Brianna Cryer is credited for the loss after 4.0 innings. Katie Boline finished 3-3 with a run scored and a walk. Dani Carmo batted in two runs with her one hit of the game.
