WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball picked up a huge win on Friday, opening up their series against No. 13 Harding with a 6-5 victory.
This win improves SWOSU to 5-20 and 2-8 in GAC play. They will look to take another game from Harding tomorrow afternoon. The schools will play a doubleheader at the SWOSU Athletic Complex starting at 12:00 pm.
SWOSU put together the most complete game of the season today. They scored six runs on 11 hits from the offense. The Bulldogs also got strong performances from both pitchers.
SWOSU did all their scoring early. After Harding went three up three down in the top of the first, SWOSU scored one run courtesy of a single from
Katie Boline to make it 1-0.
Harding was not able to reach in the top of the second either. SWOSU scored two more off of three hits in the inning, including a
Maddie Rahon double that scored both runs. The Bulldogs had all the momentum just two innings into the game.
Brianna Cryer stifled the Lady Bisons offense again in the third. She allowed just two hits and struck out one through three. The bats stayed as hot as they have been all season to help Cryer out. A couple errors from the Harding defense and a couple singles scored three runs in the third to launch SWOSU to a 6-0 lead.
The Lady Bisons would respond in the fourth, scoring three to stay close. The scoring ceased until the top of the seventh. Harding scored two with two outs to cut the lead to just one. They had two base runners on and looked poised to make the comeback when
Kaylee Barkley forced a groundout to secure the win.
Brianna Cryer (W, 3-8) held on for the win in the circle.
Kaylee Barkley got her first save of the year, going three full innings in relief.
Maddie Rahon led SWOSU hitting 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Skye Tilley batted in two runs and scored a run herself, finishing 2-3 on the day.
