ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball outhit Ouachita in Saturday's deciding third and final game of the opening conference series but fell 6-2 to the Tigers after a late seventh-inning rally fell short.
The Dawgs finish the weekend 1-2 following a split in Friday's doubleheader.
Ouachita extended their lead throughout the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings and a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth. SWOSU was not able to get on the scoreboard until their final at-bat in the seventh.
Of the six runs the Tigers scored, three were charged as unearned due to errors in the field.
In the seventh, the Dawgs finally got things going. Dani Carmo led things off with a single and it snowballed into two more base knocks to load the bases with no outs. Two more hits from Skye Tilley and Caitlin Delaney scored a run each and all the sudden, with two outs, the tying run was at the plate with the bases loaded.
Unfortunately, a fly out would end the chances of a continued rally.
Carmo finished 2-3 with one run scored. Skyla McPhillips hit a double and was 1-3 with a walk. SWOSU finished with nine hits, compared to seven from Ouachita.
Brianna Cryer (L, 2-5) got the start in the circle after throwing a shutout in last night's matchup. She went 4.1 innings before giving way to Kaylee Barkley out of the bullpen who finished the game out.
SWOSU will finally get a chance to play in Weatherford with a home conference series next weekend coming up against Southeastern.
