ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball got a double-double from Shamica Smith that included a career high 20 points but fell behind to East Central early and never regained the lead from there. They eventually fell 67-52 on Thursday in the final road game of the season.
The Lady Dawgs were able to rally in the fourth quarter and had a once 18-point deficit down to eight but couldn't break through any further for a comeback.
ECU outscored SWOSU in every quarter of the game. They jumped out to a 19-10 lead in the first quarter and led 33-22 at halftime. They then led by as many as 16 in the third quarter and 18 in the final quarter.
It was Shamica Smith's eighth double-double of the season. She shot an even 50% from the field, while adding 12 rebounds and three steals to her stat sheet. Morgan Smith finished with 14 points while being flawless from the line on four attempts.
Another bright spot on defense was the performance of Averi Zinn who led the team with four steals.
SWOSU finished at 36% shooting as a team, compared to 45% from East Central. The Lady Bulldogs struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 2-of-19 (11%) in the game.
ECU's bench out-scored SWOSU 15-0.
Conference action continues Saturday in Weatherford against Southern Nazarene on Senior Day. SWOSU will look to avenge a 76-66 loss to the Crimson Storm that came back on December 17 in Bethany.
