Bulldogs Finish Off February Non-Conference Action, Fall Twice in OKC

OKLAHOMA – SWOSU Softball was winless in two tries on Sunday at the Raising Canes Softball Festival, falling 7-2 against Nebraska-Kearney and 9-1 to No. 6-ranked Central Oklahoma.

The non-conference schedule will now be put on pause, with the beginning of conference play on the horizon. SWOSU will battle GAC foes the next two weekends – first at Ouachita next week (Feb. 24-25) before finally getting to play in Weatherford on March 3-4 against Southeastern.

GAME ONE – UNK 7, SWOSU 2

The offense managed five hits and put two runs on the board in the fifth inning, but couldn't conjure enough scoring power to get a win.

Defensively, SWOSU committed two errors that led to three unearned runs.

The first three UNK runs came via home runs. First a two-run HR in the second and a solo shot in the fourth. The Lopers led 6-0 before the Dawgs finally answered.

Skye Tilley and Katie Boline both doubled in the contest. Maddie Rahon finished 2-4 with the two-RBI single.

Brianna Cryer (L, 1-3) allowed six runs, only three earned, in 4.1 innings of work. Kaylee Barkley was effective in relief, holding the Lopers to one run the rest of the way.

GAME TWO – #6 UCO 9, SWOSU 1 (6 inn.)

Another day, another top 10-ranked team in the nation as an opponent.

SWOSU surrendered runs in every inning of the shortened contest, but had chances of their own that were not able to be cashed in. The Dawgs had base runners in four of the six innings, but only scored one run in the fourth after Jordyn Wadley doubled and Skyla McPhillips drove her in.

They again finished with five hits but committed three errors in the field that led to four of the nine runs UCO scored to be unearned.

Taryn Westbrook (L, 0-5) threw the first four innings before being relieved by Kaylee Barkley, making her second appearance of the day. Barkley threw the final 1.2 innings and allowed one unearned run in her outing.

Wadley and Cierah Jones both had extra-base hits. Jones was the only multi-hit player and finished 2-2.
