WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball sent senior
Maicee Morgan out in style on Senior Night, defeating Northwestern in straight sets to conclude the regular season.
No Bulldogs reached the 10-kill mark, but all six of SWOSU's point scorers finished with at least six kills, led by Morgan and
Taryn Galt's nine.
The win avenges a previous loss to the Rangers earlier this season and pushes the Dawgs to 18-8 on the year with a 12-4 mark in the GAC. SWOSU earns the No. 3 seed heading into next week's conference tournament and will face an opponent to be determined based on results around the league Thursday evening.
It simply
felt like SWOSU had control of the match, even with close margins during sets.
The Bulldogs started slow in set one which saw 11 ties throughout and featured SWOSU's lowest hitting percentage of any set, .143, and the most errors, eight. Tied 22-22, three straight points closed things out and allowed the home team jump out ahead in the match.
The second set featured a wire-to-wire win, and it was obvious SWOSU settled in. The Dawgs shrunk their errors, had more kills on fewer attempts, and won the second set handily. Galt led the team with four kills after
Hailey Smith did so the set prior.
Momentum continued to snowball for SWOSU in the third set after hitting above the .300 mark and again reducing the errors committed down to just three. The Dawgs led 19-14 and withstood one final Ranger run to end the night in three. Morgan and
Lacy Mott both finished with four kills apiece this set.
Final numbers showed SWOSU hitting .229 while the Rangers finished at .129. Both teams had four blocks apiece. SWOSU out served the opposition 4-2 in aces.
Lacy Mott finished with 20 digs, followed by
Jada Permenter's 16.
Cameron Turner (25) and
Terez Chavez (16) combined for 41 assists.
