SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU women's basketball concluded the GAC/MIAA Challenge versus Pittsburg State on Saturday. Pittsburg State took down the Lady Bulldogs 67-47.
SWOSU ends the first weekend of play 1-1 after the loss. The team will group up back home and host Oklahoma City University at 6 pm on November 14.
The game opened competitive. The teams battled and three SWOSU three-pointers kept them in a one-point game after 10 minutes. The second quarter saw SWOSU get outrebounded by 11 and outscored by nine points for a 10-point deficit at the half.
The third is where Pittsburg State truly separated from SWOSU. The Lady Dawgs' offense fizzled out and shot just 1-15 (6.7%) in the quarter. The Gorillas extended their lead to 22 by the end of the quarter. SWOSU went on a 15-6 run to start the fourth quarter, but couldn't close the gap enough to have a chance at the end.
SWOSU shot just 15-71 (21.1%) from the field and 5-19 (26.3%) from deep. Pittsburg State shot 24-59 (40.7%) and 5-19 (26.3%) from three. SWOSU was outrebounded 59-34 in the game. Their defense caused 21 turnovers, but they couldn't capitalize on them, as they scored 13 points off of those turnovers.
