Dawgs Blank Southeastern in Run-Rule Fashion

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball did not need to play the full nine innings in Friday's series opener against Southeastern after taking down the visiting Savage Storm 10-0 and enacting the 10-run rule after the seventh inning.

Southeastern entered the day tied for second in the Great American Conference standings with a 13-8 conference record, but SWOSU (10-11 GAC) was up for the challenge – utilizing a solid outing from Bryson Armstrong and four consecutive scoring innings, including a six-run third, to take game one.

Armstrong pitched the entire way, scattering seven hits and holding the Savage Storm scoreless throughout. He struck out eight and walked only one, for his highest strikeout total of the season.

The third inning was where the offense did damage, much of which coming with two outs. Still tied 0-0, the Savage Storm helped SWOSU jumpstart the inning with an error at shortstop which immediately initiated a sacrifice bunt that moved Ramon Vingochea to third base with no outs. Cade Hamilton drove him in with a double down the left field line and was soon scored from third following a wild pitch and an RBI ground out from Enzo Bonventre.

Now with two outs, SWOSU pieced together four additional hits including a Taylan Mullins-Ohm triple and Marc Gonzales double to make it 6-0 early.

Single runs in the fourth and fifth extended SWOSU's lead, followed by two more runs in the sixth inning to ice it.

Bonventre, the NBWCA's National Hitter of the Week last week, continued his hot streak with RBIs in the fourth and sixth innings on a double and triple. He finished 2-4 with three RBI.

Three other Bulldogs notched two hits on Friday – Cade Hamilton (2-3), JC Reed (2-3), and Marc Gonzales (2-2).

SWOSU moves to .500 on the year all around at 17-17 overall and 11-11 in league play.

They will go for the series win tomorrow at 1pm and will play a pair of games to close out the weekend and three-game series.
