WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball went winless in two tries at home against Harding on Friday, dropping an early back-and-forth game one 17-7 and the nightcap 20-3.
The Bulldogs led the Bisons 6-4 after four innings in the series opener but went on to be outscored 33-4 the rest of the day.
They will look to salvage the series tomorrow afternoon at noon with the final game.
Game One – 17-7 (8 inn.)
With the wind blowing straight out to left field over 30 miles per hour, both offenses came ready to hit. Every half inning through three saw runs scored before both teams finally put up zeros in the fourth.
Leading 6-4 in the fifth inning, Harding stole the momentum with a six-run frame that shifted the feeling of the game. SWOSU chipped into the deficit in the sixth with one run, but subsequent four and three-run innings by Harding enacted the 10-run rule and ended things early.
Miguel Soto finished 3-5 with a pair of runs scored and RBIs to lead the offense.
Zach Baxley,
Cade Hamilton, and
Alex Rice all added two hits apiece.
11 of Harding's 17 hits went for extra bases including three home runs and three triples.
SWOSU sent five pitchers to the mound in the game.
Bryson Armstrong (L, 3-4) started and went 4.1 innings before giving way to the bullpen.
Game Two – 20-3
The Bulldogs got down 1-0 following a leadoff home run in game two, but quickly answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first to settle things down – though they stranded the bases loaded and the potential to take the early lead.
From there, it was all Harding as they went on to plate 19 more runs including two separate seven-run innings. Meanwhile, SWOSU's offense could only muster two more hits after the first inning.
Five pitchers again saw action in game two.
Nate Postlethwait (L, 4-5) started and threw 3.0 innings before being relieved.
Miguel Soto finished 1-2 with a double.
