DURANT, Okla. – For the second consecutive week, pitcher
Alisa Friesen threw a complete game shutout to wrap up a conference series – this time against Southeastern in a 5-0 game three victory.
The Bulldogs split the doubleheader with the Savage Storm on Saturday, falling in game one 8-0 before bouncing back in the finale behind Friesen's efforts and some timely offense.
SWOSU will return to Weatherford this Thursday and Friday for a conference series against Arkansas Tech. Thursday will feature the doubleheader and is set to begin at 2pm and the final game will be played on Friday at noon.
GAME ONE – SE 8, SWOSU 0 (5 inn.)
The Bulldogs were held hitless in the day's first game and lost after the eight-run rule was applied in the fifth inning. Southeastern notched 11 hits in the game and hung three runs in the second and third innings and added single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Four of SE's 11 hits went for extra bases, including one home run. SWOSU's only base runner came in the third inning when
Aleah Bozarth was hit by a pitch.
GAME TWO – SWOSU 5, SE 0
Alisa Friesen returned to the circle in the finale looking to bounce back from a rough game one start on Friday, and she did just that. The senior tossed 7.0 innings and only allowed three hits, striking out two and walking three in the process.
While Friesen threw zeros on the scoreboard, the SWOSU offense used a pair of two out doubles in the third and sixth innings to plate runs.
Dani Carmo delivered first to open the scoring, and
Jewell Lee followed three innings later.
With SWOSU leading 2-0,
Breanna Simmons added an abundance of insurance with a three-run home run in the seventh.
In the game, the Dawgs out hit Southeastern 11-3. Neither team committed an error.
