Lady Bulldogs Advance to GAC Title Game

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The SWOSU Lady Bulldog basketball team is one win away from another Great American Conference title after defeating Henderson State 89-73 Saturday evening at FireLake Arena in Shawnee.

SWOSU defended well from the start, as they only allowed five points midway through the first quarter. However, the Reddies battled back and took the lead late in the first quarter. Macy Gore scored a three pointer to give the Bulldogs some momentum back, but SWOSU trailed 20-18 going into the second quarter. SWOSU did shoot 50 percent from the three-point line going two of four.

SWOSU expanded their lead to seven points at halftime with plays like Lauren Ramey scoring a contested jump shot right before halftime. SWOSU led 40-33 at halftime and was 86 percent from the free throw line, after shooting 12-of-14. Ramey and Macy Gore both scored 10 points in the first half.

SWOSU simply was too much for Henderson State to handle in the second half. Macy Gore hit back-to-back treys to give SWOSU a 15-point 52-37 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter. SWOSU played as a group and extended its lead to 64-46 at the end of the third quarter. Makyra Tramble scored 11 points in the third quarter.

SWOSU kept expanding its lead and built a 21-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. SWOSU won the game 89-73 and looked great doing so. SWOSU dominated on the glass, as they recorded 57 rebounds and Henderson State only recorded 33 rebounds. SWOSU shot 50 percent from the 3-point line, as they shot 7-of-14.

Macy Gore scored 24 points. Ramey scored 22 points and Tramble scored 20 points. Karly Gore was great on defense and recorded 11 rebounds.

Ashley Farrar from Henderson State was tough for SWOSU to defend. She scored 31 points and kept the Reddies in the game. SWOSU kept all other Reddies in check.

"One of our biggest things is our defense," Makyra Tramble said in her post game interview. "Once our defense plays well, it generates into our offense. We are going to cut down some nets in the championship game tomorrow, I just know it and I cannot wait."

SWOSU advances to the GAC Championship game and looks to win its fourth GAC Championship. SWOSU will play in the championship game, 3:30 p.m. Sunday at FireLake Arena in Shawnee against the No. 7 seed Arkansas Tech.
