SWOSU Grabs Game One Over No. 16 Henderson State

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Behind six strong innings from Bryson Armstrong on the mound and a scoreless relief effort from Ernesto Hidrogo the rest of the way, SWOSU Baseball took game one over No. 16-ranked Henderson State 6-2 on Friday afternoon out at the Athletic Complex.

The Dawgs faced adversity early by falling behind 2-0 after the first half inning, but erased the deficit in the home half of the first, grabbed the lead in the third and finally extended it with three more runs in the fifth – totaling six unanswered runs in the game.

A fielding error in the first allowed two runs to score to knot things up. Though the first run would have scored regardless, the tying run crossed after the ball found its way to the outfield.

Two innings later, Griffin Larsen drove in a run with the bases loaded on a dribbler to third base where the only play was to first.

SWOSU's scoring concluded in the fifth with a JC Reed hustle double that scored two, followed by a safety squeeze executed by Marc Gonzales.

Hidrogo entered the game in relief in the seventh inning with no outs and continued to keep the Reddie offense contained. He struck out six and picked up the unique save by pitching three effective innings for the Dawgs.

Armstrong's final line showed 6.0 innings pitched with four strikeouts and four hits.

Cade Hamilton and Taylan Mullins-Ohm both had two hits apiece for the offense. SWOSU outhit HSU 8-6.  The defense did not commit an error in the game.

The two teams will return to the field Saturday (March 25) for the doubleheader portion of the series that is set to begin at 1pm.
