Baseball Overpowered by No. 4 Southern Arkansas

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – There would be no upset by the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon as SWOSU dropped both ends of their twinbill with the No. 4-ranked team in the country, Southern Arkansas. The Bulldogs got overpowered in game one, before being stifled by the reigning national pitcher of the week in game two.

SWOSU returns to the Athletic Complex tomorrow (Monday) to close out the series with the Muleriders. A win would salvage the series and avoid the sweep. First pitch for the third and final game is scheduled for 12pm.

GAME ONE
SAU 17, SWOSU 5 (7 inn.)

The Muleriders scored the game's first 13 runs through six innings before SWOSU pieced together a nice five-run bottom half of the sixth inning. Now 13-5, SAU was able to answer in their next at-bat with a four-run inning that initiated the 10-run rule.

Bryson Armstrong (L, 1-2) got the start and made it 3.0 innings before giving way to the bullpen. All four relivers who saw action allowed at least one run.

Miguel Soto finished 2-for-4 at the plate, while Tylor Richey and Cade Hamilton both drove in two runs apiece.

GAME TWO
SAU 5, SWOSU 1

The nightcap had a different feel to it. Nate Postlethwait (L, 1-2) pitched 5.0 innings and kept the Bulldogs within striking distance throughout his outing.

SWOSU's offense was tasked with taking on opposing pitcher Jeremy Adorno of SAU who had claimed back-to-back-to-back GAC Pitcher of the Week awards to start the season and has allowed one run all season.

The Bulldogs put pressure on Adorno multiple times in the game but could not produce the hit that would shift an outcome.

Cade Hamilton hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that made the score 3-1. Needing a zero from the bullpen in the sixth inning to maintain momentum, SWOSU was unable to deliver. The Muleriders scored two more runs off a pair of bases loaded walks to extend their cushion to 5-1.

In the home half of the sixth SWOSU stranded a pair of base runners and had a chance to bring the tying run to the plate, but a strike out looking on a close call ended the threat. The Dawgs went quietly in the seventh inning to close out game two.
