Baseball Splits Opening Day of Conference Action

MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Baseball played on both sides of decisive ball games against Arkansas Monticello on Saturday, winning the series opener 11-0 before being on the losing end of a 12-4 contest in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs will have a chance to clinch the series in the final game tomorrow at noon against the Boll Weevils.

GAME ONE
SWOSU 11, UAM 0

Bryson Armstrong (W, 1-1) gave the Dawgs a strong start on the mound, holding UAM scoreless in 7.1 innings of work. He gave way to Grant Ewy out of the bullpen who threw the final 1.2 innings – keeping the shut out intact.

SWOSU got four runs in the first inning and then added more than enough insurance by scoring seven extra runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth.

Miguel Soto finished 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Jean Ortiz and Tylor Richey both added one hit and two RBI each.

GAME TWO
UAM 12, SWOSU 4

After a successful start on the mound in game one, SWOSU did not get the same result in game two. Philip Sanders pitched two innings and allowed six runs and six hits. He was relieved by Mac Cheney and then Jarod Leroux who both also gave up UAM scores.

Tied 2-2 after one full inning, the Boll Weevils went on to score in the next four innings including a four-run second and three-run fifth.

Zach Baxley and JC Reed both finished 2-for-3 and combined for all four RBI in the game.
