Soccer Season is Ended By Top Ranked Central Missouri in NCAA First Round

WARRENSBURG, MO. – The SWOSU soccer team played their final game of 2022 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They were defeated by the No. 1 seeded Central Missouri, 5-0.

The Dawgs claimed both the GAC regular season and tournament championships in 2022 and finished the season with a 9-5-7 record.

The match was fairly even in the first 30 minutes of the first half. The two teams were trading shots and fouls. It seemed to be shaping up to be another tightly contested matchup, like the UCM season opening win over the Dawgs on August 25th. Everything changed in the 31' with a UCM goal. Over the next five minutes, the Jennies scored two more goals to blow the game wide open.

Central Missouri would add two more second half goals just for insurance as the final score rested at 5-0. UCM outshot SWOSU 15-11 in shots, 11-6 in shots on goal, and 8-3 in corner kicks. Two UCM players scored multiple goals and two had multiple assists.

Ruth Vasquez led the Bulldogs in shots with four and three shots on goal. Alimata Rabo, Desiree Rodriguez, and Sola Tsuruta all had two shots and a shot on goal apiece. Ashley Hughes collected six saves in her last outing of the season.

The future of the SWOSU Soccer program is as bright as always. Coach Mark Persson has led the program to a high level of consistency in his tenure. There are only four seniors departing the team this year and 10 of 11 starters are returning for the 2023 season.
