Bulldogs Secure Postseason Positioning in Win at Northwestern

ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball claimed a 3-1 victory on the road against Northwestern Tuesday evening and in doing so, secured the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament.

It is the second 3-1 victory over the Rangers this season and it completes the regular season sweep of the team up north. SWOSU moves to 11-4 in league play, with one match remaining in the regular season.

Against the Rangers, SWOSU was led by Lacy Mott who had a double-double with 15 kills (.419) and 12 digs. Samantha Kuzma also posted double-digit kills (10) on efficient hitting, followed by Maicee Morgan and Zoey Sparks who added eight kills apiece.

Tuesday featured many decisive sets. SWOSU claimed the first set 25-15 and fourth 25-16 with little push back but had to work in the third.

After the Rangers tied the match up at 1-1 with a dominant set victory of their own in the second, momentum was up for grabs heading into the third.

It was SWOSU who jumped out to a lead in that third set. Though the margins were closer, the Dawgs constantly led as both sides inch wormed to 25 points.

The lead changed hands at 16-15 with Northwestern finally on top and SWOSU called a timeout. The timing was perfect. After the pause from play, the Dawgs scored four-straight points, regained their hold of the set, and closed it out with a 25-20 victory to take control of the match.

They closed things out one set later, with relative ease.

SWOSU will return to Weatherford for one final match in front of Bulldog Nation this Thursday when they host Southern Nazarene. The Dawgs will honor four seniors prior to the match.

Postseason play begins next Thursday, November 10 at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
