Bulldogs Rebound with Sweep of Southeastern

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball made quick work of Southeastern on Tuesday night after sweeping the Savage Storm in straight sets. It was a great way to get right back on track after the Bulldogs saw an 18-game home winning streak come to an end last week against Oklahoma Baptist.

The win also completes the regular season series sweep of Southeastern and moves the Bulldogs to 9-4 in Great American Conference play with three games remaining on the schedule.

The offense used a balance attack to get the job done. Four players posted at least seven kills, led by Samantha Kuzma who had 10 on a sizzling .533 hitting percentage.

Meanwhile, the Bulldog defense limited the Storm offense to just .151 on the night. SWOSU finished at .316 for their third .300+ match of the season.

SWOSU led wire-to-wire in the opening set behind a .333 hitting percentage and four kills apiece from Samantha Kuzma and Maicee Morgan.

The Dawgs had to withstand a Southeastern surge in the second set, before calming them down and pulling away. The Storm used five blocks and three service aces to grab all the early momentum in the frame and opened a 9-3 margin before it was quickly erased back to 13-13. From there, trailing 16-14, SWOSU scored eight of the next 10 to gain all the control back. Lacy Mott had five kills, the most of any Dawg in any set, to lead the way.

Winning 10-9 in the third (and final) set, SWOSU used a 4-0 run to distance themselves with some breathing room and did not look back. They hit .333 for the second time in the match and went on to earn the victory.

Up next for SWOSU will be back-to-back road tests against East Central (10/27) and Northwestern (11/1) before closing out the regular season back at home against Southern Nazarene on November 3.

In the last matchup with East Central back on September 6, the Dawgs needed five sets and a reverse sweep to defeat the Tigers. ECU will enter Thursday's matchup coming off a five-set thrilling win over Oklahoma Baptist.
