Bulldogs Get Outpaced By Red Hot ECU 42-28

ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Football traveled to Ada on Saturday to take on East Central. The Dawgs could not spoil the Tigers' homecoming celebration, as they went down 42-28. ECU came into this contest on a five-game winning streak after dropping their first two games of the 2022 season.

The game started slowly in the first quarter with a touchdown from each team and a couple of punts traded back and forth. It looked to be a shootout after SWOSU tied the game at 7-7 with 6:38 in the first quarter.

The next ECU possession was capped off with a 40-yard reverse jet sweep touchdown run on a 3rd & 17 play where SWOSU looked prime for a defensive stop. The Dawgs came right back down the field with their best possession of the game. It was a 16 play, 81-yard drive that ended with Dexter Brown walking into the end zone untouched for a two-yard touchdown reception. This drive ended with 8:12 left in the second quarter.

The next SWOSU score would come again from Brown in the form of a 29-yard run. The problem is that ECU had scored four touchdowns in that time span. This left SWOSU with less than a quarter and a half to make up the 21-point deficit. The ECU lead proved to be insurmountable for the Dawgs.

SWOSU gave up too many big plays on defense. The Tigers had touchdown plays of 66 yards, 40 yards, 42 yards, and 88 yards. ECU outgained the Dawgs 458-346 on 10 less offensive plays.

The rushing attack was a bright spot for the SWOSU offense. Dexter Brown had 13 carries for 94 yards and one touchdown. Gerald Palmer had a team high 22 carries for 87 yards and one touchdown. QB Tylan Morton carried the ball nine times for 65 yards and a rushing touchdown of his own.

For the defense, Keldric Martin was the leader. He had the team high 14 tackles (6s-8a). Freddie Mango followed with eight tackles (5s-3a), as well as a tackle for loss.

SWOSU falls to 3-5 on the year. Their next test will be on the road against Arkansas Tech next Saturday October 29 at 2:00 PM.
