ALVA, Okla. - SWOSU soccer neither won nor lost their first Great American Conference match against Northwestern Oklahoma State, but it was a 0-0 draw up in Alva.
The first half was scoreless, but SWOSU created more chances to score than Northwestern did. SWOSU took eight shots and Northwestern only took five. Four of those shots taken by SWOSU were on goal and Northwestern had two on goal. Goalkeeper Ashley Hughes saved the two shots Northwestern put on her goal.Â
SWOSU nearly scored the first goal of the game early in the second half on a free kick, but Desiree Rodriguez took the shot and it just sailed above the crossbar.Â
SWOSU kept going at a fast pace and created several chances to score goals in the second half, as they took nine shots with seven of those shots being on goal. They had two corner kicks in the second half, but could not find the net. One of those corner kicks was when there was a minute left to play, but SWOSU came up with no goal, meaning this game went into overtime.Â
This was SWOSU's first overtime game of the season. These two teams last faced each other in overtime in 2019 and it ended in a 0-0 draw.Â
In the first overtime, both teams created chances, but both teams did not score, so there was a second overtime. SWOSU did not have a shot on goal or a corner in the first overtime, but did have a cross into the box, but was deflected away by Northwestern.Â
In the second overtime, neither team could find the crucial goal. SWOSU had two shots on goal, but the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Anna Bager, Summer Bass, and Rodriguez each had two shots on goal. Hughes had five saves for SWOSU. The Bulldogs had 12 shots on goal and Northwestern had five shots on goal. SWOSU had three corner kicks, but Northwestern had seven corner kicks.
SWOSU now has a record of (2-4-1) and is (0-0-1) in GAC play. SWOSU will play its next game, 1 p.m. Saturday at home against East Central.
