WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball saw their 2021 spring season end on Saturday following a three-game series against #22 Southern Arkansas.
The Bulldogs end the year with a record of 9-29, which includes a 9-24 mark in Great American Conference play.
#22 SAU 13, SWOSU 4
A three-run home run by
Breanna Simmons brought SWOSU within one run at 5-4 in the fifth, but SAU tacked on eight runs in the final two innings to pull away in the opener. The Bulldogs had seven hits in the game, including two each from Simmons and
Jordyn Wadley, but they stranded five runners on base.
SAU had 13 hits off
Miranda Grover (5-14), who pitched 6.1 innings and took the loss.
#22 SAU 11, SWOSU 4
Game 2 on Friday followed a similar script, only SWOSU took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run groundout off the bat of
Ashtyn McAdoo. The Bulldogs held the lead until the sixth, when SAU tied the game at 4-4 before hitting two home runs as part of a seven-run seventh inning that won the game.
SWOSU used two pitchers in the game, with
Alisa Friesen (2-8) taking the decision after allowing seven runs on two hits with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

The Bulldogs found themselves facing a 7-0 deficit after two innings, but they rallied to scored three runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings before SAU scored to put the game out of reach in the seventh. SWOSU got a two-run single from
Dani Carmo in the fourth and an RBI double from
Keanni Barron in the fifth to account for their scoring.
Grover (5-15) got the start and took the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in the first two innings.
