SWOSU Softball Falls in Series Finale at ECU

ADA, Okla. – Breanna Simmons was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, but SWOSU Softball was held scoreless for the final five innings as East Central rallied for a 5-4 victory in the series finale on Friday in Ada.

Simmons hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning and Kennedi Morelock added an RBI groundout as SWOSU built a 3-0 lead after one-half inning of play. ECU answered with two home runs of their own to tie the score in the first, but Simmons again put the Dawgs on top with an RBI single in the top of the second. ECU again had an answer in the bottom half of the inning before getting an RBI double in the fourth for the go-ahead and deciding run.

SWOSU again outhit the Tigers, this time 9-6 with multi-hit games from Simmons, Hannah Franklin and Dustie Pence, but they were plagued with the inability to get timely hits as they left eight runners on base.

Brianna Cryer (1-3) tossed a complete game and struck out two, but allowed five runs on six hits with four walks and took the decision.

The Bulldogs, now 8-14 (8-9 GAC) on the year, are back in action on Tuesday at Northwestern before returning home next weekend for a three-game set against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
