SWOSU Stunned in Overtime by Southern Nazarene

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Soccer team saw a two-goal lead dissipate in the second half and they fell to Southern Nazarene, 3-2 in extra time, and they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Tournament on Saturday in Weatherford.

SWOSU struck first early in the first half when Micaela Swain scored a goal, eight minutes into the game. SWOSU was ahead 1-0 at halftime. SWOSU had seven shots and SNU had a shot with three of those seven shots on goal.

SWOSU doubled their lead, 13 minutes into the second half. Brenna McGuirk had a shot off the left post. When it bounced off the left post, Brooke Scott was there for the finish, giving SWOSU a 2-0 advantage. A minute later, SNU scored a goal off a brilliant shot, making it 2-1. SNU scored the equalizer with 14 minutes left to play and we were tied at 2.

With five minutes left to play, Claire Torrey almost scored a screamer, but it went just above the crossbar and 90 minutes was not enough to decide a winner, which sent this game into extra time.

In the first half of extra time, SWOSU created chances with a free kick and two shots that just missed, but neither team scored in the first overtime period. It was the visitors who found the golden goal and ended SWOSU's season as they scored a goal midway through the second half of extra time.

SWOSU had 27 shots in this game with 10 of them on goal, compared to SNU having seven shots and three of them on goal. SNU did have a yellow card in extra time and SWOSU received no cards.
